Opening a New Chapter in Supporting People with Disabilities

We are pleased to announce the opening of the Doris Center for Empowerment and Rehabilitation for Adults with Disabilities, a project created in partnership with the Doris International Medical Complex. This center is dedicated to supporting and integrating individuals with disabilities through a personalized and multidisciplinary approach.

Doris International Medical Complex

The „Doris” Center is a key component of the Doris International Medical Complex, which also provides services such as:

  • Ambulance services, the first private service of its kind in Romania.
  • Laboratory testing.
  • Occupational health services.
  • Future facilities designed to meet the needs of the community.

With over 30 years of experience, the Doris Complex is known for the high quality of its services and its pioneering role in the Romanian medical field.

Why This Partnership?

This partnership between the Intercalat Association and the Doris International Medical Complex is built on shared values:

  • A commitment to providing high-quality services to vulnerable individuals.
  • Combining medical expertise with social assistance experience.
  • Creating a comprehensive and efficient framework to support beneficiaries by offering both medical care and social integration.

Strategic Location

The Doris Center is located in the heart of Bucharest at 11 Iuliu Maniu Boulevard, in an easily accessible area, making it ideal for beneficiaries and collaborators alike. Its central location encourages student involvement in volunteer programs, offering them opportunities to develop their skills and actively contribute to the community. Moreover, it provides a convenient setting for mental health professionals to collaborate directly with the center, ensuring the best solutions for our beneficiaries.

About the Doris Center for Empowerment and Rehabilitation

The center has a total capacity of 38 places, 20 of which are already occupied. We anticipate reaching full capacity in early 2025. Beneficiaries receive:

  • Medical, psychological, and social support tailored to individual needs.
  • safe and welcoming environment that fosters autonomy and social integration.

This initiative was inspired by the lessons learned during the #subcerulliber campaign (2020-2023), where we organized over 80 weekly events in Colțea Park, Bucharest, interacting directly with vulnerable individuals and those with mental disabilities.

Mental Health Context in Romania

Romania faces significant challenges in the field of mental health:

  • According to the Civic Labs report, the system is underfunded and unevenly accessible across regions.
  • The „Mental Health Snapshot in Romania 2023” report reveals that over 60% of mental health disorders begin before the age of 25.
  • Untreated mental health disorders cost the economy $11 billion annually (3.47% of GDP).
  • Romania has one of the lowest averages of mental health specialists in Europe.

Our Mission

The Intercalat Association aims to make a meaningful impact in social assistance by:

  • Innovating and exchanging international experiences.
  • Implementing best practices to support beneficiaries.
  • Promoting social inclusion and transparency in all initiatives.

An Important Step Forward

The launch of the Doris Center for Empowerment and Rehabilitation marks a crucial milestone in our mission to support vulnerable individuals and contribute to a more inclusive society.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported us on this journey.
